ACHILLEION PALACE

WHERE ARISTOCRACY MEETS GREEK MYTHOLOGY

Nestled on a lush green hill, just 9 km from Corfu’s vibrant city center, the Achilleion Palace is a masterpiece of neoclassical elegance and imperial grandeur. Commissioned in 1890 by Empress Elisabeth of Austria, affectionately known as “Sisi,” this breathtaking estate was inspired by her love for Greek mythology—most notably, Achilles, the legendary warrior for whom the palace is named.

The estate of Achilleion covers an area of 82,100m2 and along with the palace, includes three other smaller buildings: the Barron’s, Guards and Gatehouse buildings.
The grand halls of the palace reveal intricate frescoes, majestic marble statues, and elegant columns, reflecting the opulence of its era. Surrounding gardens, filled with exotic flora and sculptures of Greek gods, provide panoramic views of the Ionian Sea, enhancing the estate’s timeless beauty. Once a retreat for European royalty, including Germany’s last emperor, Kaiser Wilhelm II, Achilleion remains a significant landmark of history and neoclassical architecture.
